I bought this gem on the advice of Good Time Party Store. They bought a barrel of it and this is a bottle from that barrel.
Eagle Rare’s 10-year offering has performed well at international spirit ratings competitions. It received a string of gold and double gold medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition between 2005 and 2010, and was given an above-average score of 92 by the Beverage Testing Institute.
Here are the Tasting notes from Eagles site (http://www.eaglerare.com/)
Nose: Complex aromas of toffee, hints of orange peel, herbs, honey, leather and oak
Taste: Bold, dry, oaky flavors with notes of candied almonds and very rich cocoa
Finish: Dry and lingering
Here are my tasting notes:
Nose: Vanilla and Caramel. Strong alcohol
Body: Slightly sweet, slightly oil texture, light caramel/maple taste and slightly spicy. It has a little more of the alcohol burn so I recommended a splash of water to bring it down a bit.
Finish: Medium finish, it does not leave anything amazing behind and the burn is a little much like I said for the body I think a splash of water would be good for it.
Overall: I think that for the cost this is an OK spirit. I think that there are plenty of other bourbon whiskeys out there that will satisfy your palate more than this one.
