Our whiskey stones work best in drinks of smaller volume (between 1 and 6 ounces). The benefit of using our stones to keep your drink cold is that you get the proper chill without the damaging dilution. Our stones can also be used to keep your hot drink warmer for longer, but I’m not much of a tea drinker, so we’ll stick to whiskey. I prefer to pour about two ounces of my favorite spirit over two of our whiskey stones. I then add a small amount of water to taste, if needed. Now, because I’m not using ice cubes, that dilution will remain where I intend it to be, and I’ll be able to enjoy all the subtle nuances of the beverage. We all have different tastes, so please feel free to experiment!
Starting out: Place the bag of stones into the freezer for at least 4 hours before initial use. Stone releases temperature at a lower rate than ice. So, the longer you freeze it, the longer it stays cold!
Quick fix: In a bowl, add 3 cups ice with 1/2 cup salt and enough water to cover the stones (the salt lowers the freezing temperature of the water. Because, you know, science). Place the stones in the mix for about 15 minutes. Remove the stones, rinse under cold water, and enjoy!
**Please use caution when using hot stones! Never use bare hands to transfer them to your drink!**
1) Microwave for about 2 minutes. Using tongs, place stones into the bottom of your mug. The stones will remain hot for a while, so please be careful to keep them away from your lips through sipping, or using a mug with a lid.
Caring for your whiskey stones is easy. Simply wash off your whiskey stones with mild soap and warm water. Let them dry, and then pop them in the freezer. We recommend storing them in the muslin bag they were shipped in, so that they won’t freeze to other things in the freezer, or get lost.
